Alconbury Weald, Cambridgeshire
Project Overview
epd (previously Roger Griffiths Associates) were involved from an early stage on this major new development which our client, Urban & Civic, describes as a high quality low carbon Enterprise Campus. On this disused airfield our Green Infrastructure Strategy played an important role in the creation of the development proposals for the whole site.
The green assets of the site and how they link with the wider community were of particular importance to the emerging proposals. By utilising them in a positive way the client was able to demonstrate their long term investment in delivering a new and linked community in Huntingdonshire.
The scheme, that includes around 5,000 new homes, primary & secondary educational facilities and a potential new rail station, is phased for delivery over the next 15 years with the enabling works, including a business enterprise zone, completed on site in early January 2014.
Early phases of the project required the creation and presentation of a variety of illustrative material to support a public design enquiry. We then produced a Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) along with a detailed planning application for the enabling works zones.
