South Cambridgeshire Green Space Improvement
Project Overview
epd is currently collaborating with South Cambridgeshire District Council to identify the best green spaces for biodiversity enhancements and urban greening in the Borough. Our task involves pinpointing areas within South Cambridgeshire that lack greenspace and working with the council to audit and evaluate these spaces. The goal is to target and redesign areas that will benefit the most people for community use and access to green spaces.
Similar to conducting an Open Space Audit, we swiftly assessed numerous sites based on criteria such as quality and accessibility. We recorded their functionality using a traffic light system, evaluating the condition of existing infrastructure like boundary treatments, paths, and trees. This assessment is linked to the maintenance regime, enabling us to monitor and ensure quality in the future.
To gather opinions on proposed improvements, we surveyed local residents. This scheme involves collaboration and co-design with the client and key stakeholders to determine the most suitable sites and appropriate biodiversity enhancement measures. epd is leading the design and consultation process, developing concept designs with input from interested parties. After assessing feedback, we created a series of final designs for approval by the community.
We will then partner with Glendale to implement the designs, resulting in a more responsive design process, quicker installation, and higher quality both in installation and ongoing maintenance, which is crucial to the scheme's success.
